Why You Should Join the Roy Cooper and Sons Roping Team
Professional rodeo cowboys, unlike other professional athletes, spend considerable money going down the road. Not only do they buy their horses, trailers, fuel, meals, lodging, and airfare they pay their own entry fees to even participate in the rodeos. Their “winnings” are their salary. Contrast that to the multi-millionaire professional football, basketball, baseball and hockey players.
Professional rodeo fans show a great deal of loyalty to the sponsors that help the cowboys cover these expenses that would otherwise be covered by a professional sports team. Fans pay attention to whose logo patches the cowboys' are wearing, whose banners are being hung in the arena, whose logo is painted on the cowboys' rig (truck and trailer) and personal appearances that the cowboys make on behalf of their sponsors.
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association sanctions approximately 650 rodeos annually in 39 states in the United States and four provinces in Canada. Total prize money offered by PRCA rodeos in 2007 will surpass $40 million in 2007. Now, more than ever, television is playing a larger role in attracting new viewers, while retaining and entertaining long-time fans. Fox Sports Net and CBS carry the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour performances including the major rodeos on the following page.
The following demographics were provided by the Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association. Note in particular:- 58% of ProRodeo fans earn $50,000+ annually.
